Propel's Fashion Icon a Stellar Success!

There’s a rising star in the fashion world propelled in part by, well, Propel. Lucas Caracas Le-Fort, a student in the Propel program run out of Nelson McIntyre Collegiate, has recently been featured in the after surpassing 300 sales from their fashion line, Lucas Star.

Lucas’s bright and positive personality is reflected in the clothes they make, which are full of colour and vibrancy.

“I love dressing with colour,” Lucas said. “I know that it makes me happy, and it just carries me.”

Lucas said it’s been great to hear the clothes have been inspiring the same sorts of feelings for others.

“Everyone tells me that by wearing my clothes, they get energy. I really like to hear that.”

Lucas makes all their pieces by hand, making sure to keep sustainability in mind.

Lucas often uses “dead stock” fabric that might otherwise end up in a landfill and takes scraps from previous works to add flare to other pieces.

While it’s clearly Lucas’s hard work that has been at the heart of their success, they’re grateful to have been part of the award-winning project-based Propel program.

“Propel has helped me tremendously. Not only did they give me a space where I could work, which was super great because it was full of creative people and I was able to stay in my zone, but also Mr. Hansen pushed me to work hard on my goals,” Lucas said.

As part of Propel, Lucas and classmates put together two issues of a magazine under the brand name Lucas Star that displayed the unique pieces Lucas has created.

With this, Lucas has already taken a bite out to the fashion world, and they’re hungry for more. Lucas, who moved to Canada from Brazil at age nine and who speaks Portuguese, plans on moving to Portugal after graduation to go to fashion school.

“I’m super excited for that opportunity, because I’m going to be able to stay one year in Portugal and really learn more about fashion culture,” Lucas said.

All of us here at 91̽»¨app will be cheering on Lucas from Winnipeg, as this “strella” (which means star in Portuguese and is also the style of pants Lucas most often makes) takes their passion from Propel to the next step. Good luck, Lucas!
