2018-2019 Hastings School Report
Hastings School's goals have been developed within the holistic framework of the Circle of Courage that includes the areas of; Belonging, Mastery, Independence and Generosity.
Belonging:
Over the past year, Hastings School has focused on further strengthening relationships through increased school-based and outreach activities. We also continued with evening programming for parents and children. These activities have included Pow wows, Pow Wow club, oral storytelling, drumming club, family dinners with Indigenous entertainment, school feasts, smudging and a staff book study. Building a sense of belonging and wellbeing for all children will continue to be a focus in the years to come.
Mastery:
After undergoing the process of a Collaborative Learning Cycle (that reviewed the numeracy data for our school), the plan for 2019-2020 will be to focus on developing our students' problem-solving abilities. The divisional Learning Support Team will support this goal through an intense residency as they work with students and staff on mathematical problem-solving at Hastings School.
Independence:
The concept of self-regulation continues to be a goal for children at our school. The staff will continue to use the program, Zones of Regulation to support students. A book study and divisional clinical support are two resources that will be utilized to build capacity in this area.
Generosity:
Students at Hastings have been involved with Winnipeg Harvest, volunteering at Com-span (facility for adults living with disabilities) and taking steps to be good environmental stewards as they learn ways that they can make a difference and reduce their ecological footprint. A new initiative this year involves a group or our Sources of Strength students who will be creating a Welcome Wagon to reach out to new students and families who join the Hastings School community.
